ABOUT US
Subida do Sado was born from a deep life-time conexion with water and nature.
Cesario Jesus, local fisherman and water-man, was born and raised in Carrasqueira, Comporta. He has dedicated his life to fishing, which has been in his family for generations. He founded Subida do Sado in 2006, offering boat rides throughout the Sado Estuary and Arrabida coast.
In 2020 Ricardo Urien arrived with his family to Carrasqueria, with previous experience on different ocean crossings in private boats and eager to find somethings involving water and tourism. At the Porto Palafita he met Cesario and joined him in this journey that is Subida do Sado.
The different boat rides and experiences start from the Porto Palafita, a wooden pier built on stilts by local fishermen in the 1950s. The pier helped the fishermen exit the dock because of the high changes on the tides. When the tide is low the traditional fishing boats lay on the mud waiting for the water of the ocean to accompany them to depart. This is the reason why it’s possible to only offer one ride per day, starting off in an idilic scenery, surrounded by rice fields, nature and having the chance of watching unique sunsets throughout the entire year.
